Mission WV is a nonprofit organization headquartered in Hurricane, West Virginia, dedicated to transforming the lives of youth and families throughout the Mountain State. Since our founding in 1997, Mission WV has been a beacon of hope, providing innovative programs and unwavering support to some of West Virginia’s most vulnerable populations. Our work is rooted in the belief that every child deserves a loving family and the opportunity to thrive.
“We must see and understand West Virginia as it is today and must have a vision of what it can be in the new time of the new century...one people, one state, working together for mutual progress." - Cecil H Underwood, January 13, 1997
Our Mission & Vision
Mission Statement
Mission West Virginia changes the lives of youth and families. We promote positive futures by recruiting foster families, providing life skills education and creating community connections.
Vision Statement
One people, one state, working together to provide every child with a loving family and the knowledge to make positive choices for a healthier future.
Our History & Growth
Mission WV was established in response to a call from Governor Cecil H. Underwood, who envisioned a united West Virginia working for mutual progress. Under the leadership of Rev. Dr. F. Emerson Wood and a diverse board of directors, Mission WV quickly became a leader in family support and youth empowerment. Early successes included the Faith and Families program, which connected local congregations with families in need, and a statewide technology initiative to bridge the digital divide for children in foster care.
Over the years, Mission WV has expanded its reach, launching the FrameWorks program to recruit and support foster and adoptive families, and the THINK program to deliver evidence-based teen health education. Today, Mission WV serves families in every corner of the state, from Charleston and Huntington to rural communities in the Appalachian hills.
