How do you know your program works? At Mission WV we use only evidence-based curriculum. Evidence-based teen pregnancy prevention (TPP) programs are programs that have been shown to have a positive effect on preventing teen pregnancies, sexually transmitted infections, or sexual risk behaviors. Our educators are continually being trained on the most up-to-date information on trauma, sexual health, and high-risk behaviors. Our management team does on-site observations of our educators regularly to ensure fidelity is being followed. We also administer pre and post surveys, receive teacher feedback, hold teen focus groups and site satisfaction surveys.

Is teen pregnancy a problem in West Virginia? Yes, it is. Since the start of our program, the teen birth rate has fallen 50.1%, and 11% in the last year alone. In some parts of WV, adolescent childbearing is a very significant problem compared to the state average. In national survey data, 45.9% of WV teens admitted to having sex at least once time (national average is 40%). 

Are your programs available in the entire state of WV? Unfortunately, no. Currently, our THINK programs are in schools in 20 counties in the state. We are always looking to expand this program though. If you are interested in our program, workshops or trainings, please feel free to reach out to us.

What is the cost of your programs? Due to federal and state funding, we are able to offer our THINK program, workshops and trainings at little or no cost. We do ask a small fee for our THINK
Conference, to cover the cost of food and refreshments. 

Do you provide birth control (condoms) to students? We do not. If a student asks where they can access birth control, we will refer them to their local health care provider. Some school nurses/counselors do have condoms available along with information and referrals.
