Community Rallies to Fill 500+ Christmas Stockings for Teens in Foster Care; Mission WV Leads Distribution

Hurricane, W.Va. — November 20, 2025 — Foster WV, a ministry of River Ridge Church, announced today that its 2025 Operation Christmas Stocking drive not only met its goal of 500 fully stuffed stockings for teens in foster and kinship care—it surpassed it, thanks to an outpouring of generosity from the community. The effort kicked off in early November at both campuses of River Ridge Church in Teays Valley and Charleston, WV. In addition to the stockings, donors contributed extra items and funds that will help Mission West Virginia provide even more holiday support to youth across the state.

What started as a simple idea to brighten Christmas for teens in foster care turned into a movement of kindness,” said Monica Robinson, Foster WV Advocate for River Ridge Church. “Our community filled every single stocking—and kept giving. The extra donations mean more teens will feel seen and supported this season. We are incredibly grateful to every family and church member who joined in.”

The stockings and additional gifts will be delivered to Mission West Virginia (missionwv.org), which will distribute them in December to teens in foster and kinship care across West Virginia.

This effort sends a powerful message to teens in care: you matter, and your community is behind you,” said Kelly Thompson, Executive Director of Mission West Virginia. “We’re honored to place these stockings into the hands of young people statewide and deeply thankful to River Ridge Church, Foster WV, and everyone who donated. Your generosity helps us bring comfort, dignity, and joy during the holidays.”

Operation Christmas Stocking, launched in 2023, makes it easy for families to shop from a ready-made list and pack a stocking with essentials and small treats. The strong response filled the original target—and then some—ensuring Mission West Virginia can serve more teens this year.
