Working with Military Affiliated Clients

This 2-hour introductory course is designed to support helping professionals in work with military-affiliated clients. Participants will develop cultural awareness through exploration of key components of military culture. Participants will identify how use of language and terminology, such as the term Veteran, can create barriers or opportunities for working with military-affiliated clients. Participants will learn strategies to apply these insights to build rapport in their work with military-affiliated clients.

Learning Objectives:

  • Be introduced to key components of military culture including basic structure, systems, and terminology

  • Identify limitations that the term Veteran can create and ways to be more inclusive in defining military- affiliated clients

  • Learn basic and culturally aware approaches to establishing rapport

2 hours of social work CEUs will be provided for those who attend the live training session.
